Garry Adkins has been a Certified Massage Therapist Instructor since 1994 and is approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCBTMB) as a continuing education Approved Provider and is also sponsored by NCBTMB to teach New York LMTs continuing education that is accepted by the state of New York for license renewal.
He is a member of the U.S. Olympic Committee Sports Medicine Society, Alliance for Massage Therapy Education, International Association of Healthcare Practitioners, American Massage Therapy Association, Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals and past president of the Association of Michigan Myomassologists Inc.
Garry is a seminar instructor for PESI rehab, Irene’s Myomassology Institute and the Lakewood School of Therapeutic Massage in Michigan and Educating Hands School of Massage in Florida, published author and International featured speaker. Previous coordinator of the Detroit Free Press/Chemical Bank Marathon Massage Team. He is a previous speaker for AKS Massage School in Virginia, and a past senior faculty member at Irene’s Myomassology Institute in Michigan.
Garry is licensed to practice in the state of Michigan and specializes in the treatment of elite athletes with injury rehabilitation and provides treatment for the hardest working team in the NFL, the Detroit Lions. Consults with many of the areas finest athletic trainers including Ironman Champion Laura Sophiea, Jan Jacobs, Ironman James Stromberg, movie star and trainer Michael Knight from Michael Knight AOS training center in Michigan. Garry is also certified by RockTape in Fascial Movement Taping. He has signed on to consult and provide therapy for the 2018 New York Giants and the 2014 US Olympic Paralympic Cycling team.
Garry has traveled to St. Moritz, Switzerland as the team massage therapist for the U.S. Olympic team at the Bobsled and Skeleton World Championships and has provided treatments for the Olympian Katie Uhlaender, and Mike Kohn, 2002 bronze medial winner. Garry was selected as a team member of the 2002 Winter Olympic Massage Team in Salt Lake City, and was celebrated for his contributions by the USOC Performance Services Division at the NATA Convention in St. Louis.
Garry was nominated for Massage Therapist of the Year by Detroit Monthly magazine. The first person to ever demonstrate massage therapy techniques at a World’s Fair in Seville, Spain (United States pavilion).
He has been a featured speaker at the AMTA National Convention in Indianapolis, IN. Maine Chapter of the American Massage Therapy Association in Augusta, ME. Natural Health Practitioners of Canada Annual National Conference in Banff, AB. Humanistic Medicine Procedure Lecture at Wayne State Medical School, and the Michigan Chiropractic Society Fall Convention. He also participated in the Sports Medicine Division Volunteer program for the United States Olympic Committee.
